Ava Wilson - 2022 Junior Track Nationals

The Junior Track Nationals was an incredible experience and I have learnt so much, varying from tactics and racing, to team culture and spirit.
Although my racing experience didn’t quite go to plan with two high-speed crashes on the same day, leaving me unable to race for the rest of the competition, I was still able to compete in a few races prior, and for the following days I could contribute to the awesome SA team spirit.
The team was a major part of the Nationals experience and I now consider the cycling community as my second family. The coaches commented that they had never before had a team that was as united and supportive of each other. Competitors and coaches from the other states also commented on our great team spirit and we even got added to AusCycling’s Instagram story.

The races prior to the crashes taught me many things such as pacing, yet still pushing myself enough to achieve my best performance. It also gave me lots of racing experience, being able to race against other strong girls l who are much more physically aggressive competitors than in SA.
I was happy with how I placed in the races given this was my first track nationals as well as having limited track exposure outside SA.

I feel like this experience really built my resilience and determination and will help with the upcoming road nationals which I hope to make amends in, as well as next year in U19s.

Hunter Wood - 2022 Junior Track Nationals

Between the 22nd and 27th of April, a team of 17 cyclists from around South Australia flew across Australia to the Anna Meares Superdrome in Brisbane to compete for Australian National Champion. I was granted the fantastic opportunity to be a member of this team.

I competed in all events and qualified fastest in the sprint, 12.241 seconds for the flying 200m. That is an average speed of 58.82 km/h. During the first semi-final round, I crashed after touch bars in the home straight. I had three minutes to get some first aid, fix my bike and stand back up and strive for the green and gold jersey.

South Australia's main goal was to stand out from the other States and Territories. I feel that I helped SA accomplish this after winning two national titles (match sprint and 500m time trial) and a silver in the Kieren. Also, by supporting my team in their events.

The experience of crossing the line first was astonishing. Still, the involvement in such a strong team and racing at the most famous velodrome in Australia was incredible. The efforts, morale, and overall enthusiasm that Team SA showed about cycling were extraordinary.

Leo Zimmermann- 2022 Senior Track Nationals

Track nationals and the Brisbane cycling festival was an amazing experience. More than 2 weeks away from home was the longest I’d ever been away for, and to spend it racing bikes was pretty cool. I got to share some pretty special moments with teammates, coaches and friends and achieve my biggest goal of the last 18 months; the national individual pursuit.

Along with this, getting to wear the national kit and take gold with the national team in the junior team pursuit at the Oceania track champs was a great privilege. Unfortunately Road Oceania’s didn’t go quite to plan, later testing positive to covid.

So much learnt, and so many more goals to achieve. I really can’t wait to step up into Elites next year and give it everything.
